With the 2026 World Cup in full swing, Boca are pursuing Uruguay forward Rodrigo Aguirre to strengthen their options up front. El Espectador Deportes reports that Boca are said to have made progress towards a deal.

At 31, Aguirre is in strong form for Tigres of Mexico, a run that earned his call-up under Marcelo Bielsa and drew Boca’s interest. The staff have prioritised a forward with leadership, international experience and the capacity to handle Boca’s pressure.

His track record across the Americas highlights his physical power and versatility across the front line. Boca view that profile as aligned with the club’s history of successful Uruguayan forwards.

While they wait on reinforcements, Boca’s first official match of the semester will arrive with the tournament still ongoing. Vasco Arruabarrena’s side are to visit Rosario to face Sarmiento de Junín in the Copa Argentina round of 32.

The tie is scheduled for Thursday 16 July at 21:45 at the Coloso Marcelo Bielsa. It will be the new manager’s first major test as he looks to keep strengthening his squad.
