Boca Juniors marked what would have been Miguel Ángel Russo's 70th birthday with an emotional tribute on their official channels. The club said in a post that they wished him a happy birthday and miss him every day.

Russo died on 8 October last year while still Boca head coach after a battle with a serious illness, a loss that caused shock around the world.

He had three spells in charge. In 2007 he delivered the Copa Libertadores, then between 2020 and 2021 he won the 2019/20 Superliga and the 2020 Copa de la Liga.

In his final stint at the club, Russo led the Xeneize at the FIFA Club World Cup and was competing in the Torneo Clausura of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol.

Following his passing, assistant Claudio Úbeda took over on the touchline.

Rosario Central also paid tribute, highlighting Russo's key moments there, including promotion to the Primera División in 2013 and the 2023 Copa de la Liga title.
