La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests Paulo Dybala is close to sealing a new Roma deal, a blow to Boca hopes.

Optimism had grown a week ago when the forward changed representation to agent Kristian Bereit, who has close links to Boca. That move was read as a nod towards La Bombonera.

Talks between Bereit and Roma’s hierarchy are in their final phase. The club aim to reshape the finances to stay within Financial Fair Play, moving on from the Argentine’s net salary of eight million euros.

The proposal is a one-year extension with an option for a further season, on a base wage between two and two and a half million euros. Bonuses tied to appearances, goals and team achievements would bridge the gap.

Negotiations are being led by sporting director Ricky Massara, with vice-president Ryan Friedkin present at Trigoria. The coaching staff are keen to keep the world champion after a season that showcased his resilience.

Dybala suffered a serious left knee injury against Milan in late January and underwent arthroscopy to repair the external meniscus, missing more than three months amid internal friction over surgery timing. He returned in May, starred in the derby with Lazio, set up Gianluca Mancini and left the Olympic Stadium to a thunderous ovation.

As it stands, Boca fans, and friend Leandro Paredes, look set to keep waiting for any mid-year reunion.
