Boca could sanction the permanent departure of Marcelo Saracchi this summer, with Celtic the most concrete option as he is currently on loan. Any sale would also open an extra foreign slot as the club pursue another signing.

Marcelo Tejera said: “He has possibilities to join a team in England that contacted me, and also a club in Brazil. I have a meeting planned with Celtic’s chief executive because they also want to buy his rights,” he told Carve Deportiva.

His Celtic loan runs to 30 June and the Glasgow club hold an option to buy.

Saracchi left Boca after falling out of favour. A permanent deal would bring in a fee and free a non-Argentine quota for the next window.

Claudio Úbeda’s squad currently lists four foreign players, Edinson Cavani of Uruguay, Ander Herrera of Spain, Carlos Palacios of Chile and Ángel Romero of Paraguay. Rules allow six foreigners, although only five can be named on a teamsheet. Miguel Merentiel, Williams Alarcón and Adam Bareiro hold dual nationality.
