Boca are weighing a switch of home venue for upcoming fixtures because of the deteriorating pitch at La Bombonera.

According to SuperDepor.com, stark colour differences in the grass near the boxes and the benches were evident during the win over O'Higgins in the Copa Sudamericana 2026 round of 32 first leg, renewing concern.

As the match wore on, numerous holes appeared that hindered ball circulation, dribbling and low passes, showing the surface was short of optimum condition.

The issue began in the World Cup break, when heavy machinery was used to improve the soil before reseeding. Poor weather then slowed growth, particularly alongside the boxes where there is less sunlight and a more complex treatment is needed.

The board, led by Juan Román Riquelme, will reassess the surface in the coming hours to decide whether it can host Estudiantes on Wednesday 5 August and Vélez on Sunday 9 August.

If the improvement is insufficient, Boca are considering moving both matches to another stadium while the turf recovers.

No final decision or alternative venue has been set. Any move would be the first since February 2024, when Boca hosted Sarmiento at the Nuevo Gasómetro due to a similar pitch problem. The call will need to be made in the coming days given the proximity of the Estudiantes match.
