Boca's player ratings from the win in the clásico against San Lorenzo

Boca wants to compete on all fronts and is holding nothing back. After qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana semifinals, the same starting eleven got the win against San Lorenzo. They beat Rubén Insúa’s team 2-0, with goals from Leandro Lozano and Miguel Merentiel, on matchday 10 of the Torneo Clausura.

The La Ribera club was the clear dominator of the match. They delivered a very high collective level, shutting down every move from the Azulgrana side, who never found a solution. The full-backs were very important in Vasco Arruabarrena’s system. They were among the standout performers in a squad where everyone earned high marks. Álvaro Montero (7)

He was a privileged spectator throughout the match. He didn’t have a single action that demanded real attention. He claimed a few crosses that dropped into the box. He was accurate with his passing.

Leandro Lozano (9)

Second straight goal for Boca. Together with Flores, he created a 2-on-1 against Álvarez. The ball fell nicely for him in the middle of the box and with his left foot (again, like against São Paulo), he made it 1-0. Very active in attack and defense. He was careful when pushing all the way forward, where he linked up well with the youngster. He was always available as a passing option. He picked up a yellow card after slipping.

Lautaro Di Lollo (8)

A great match from the center-back. After a few games at a low level, he raised his performance and became one of the pillars of the defense. Firm and reliable in marking. He never overcomplicated things. He won a large number of aerial duels. In the second half, he dared to carry the ball forward for more than 50 meters and played a strong pass to Merentiel in what nearly became another goal for the team.

Facundo Herrera (7)

Despite some mistakes born of his inexperience, he shows he has the personality and quality to be an unquestioned starter for Boca. He stepped out far from the back on some plays, mixing good moments with imprecision. He won several duels. He was booked for swinging his arms and avoided a red card after stepping on Auzmendi (it could have been a second yellow), but the referee let it go.

Lautaro Blanco (9)

The left-footer was once again involved in every Boca attack. Every time he got forward to the end line, he created a clear chance for the team. He delivered several crosses looking for Merentiel. He nutmegged San Lorenzo’s right-back twice in brilliant fashion. The first one didn’t end well, but the second led to the Beast’s goal.

Santiago Ascacibar (8)

A very good game from the Ruso. He was once again active in the opposition box. A big presence in attack as a fourth man arriving late. He created two very clear chances and came close to adding another goal to his tally. First, with a header lacking power. Then he went one-on-one with Devecchi, who read his intention.

Leandro Paredes (10)

A masterclass from the captain. He was Boca’s conductor. From the first minute, the team played exactly how the No. 5 wanted. He distributed to the right, to the left, through the middle, played long balls in behind the center-backs, and even took shots at goal. When the pitch got heavy because of all the rain, he was the only one who knew how to tame the ball without misplacing passes. He completed more than 125 accurate passes.

Milton Delgado (7)

Among all the high ratings, he was the lowest. He was Paredes’ safety valve. He faded as the match went on. He played a few meters further forward, which allowed him to loosen up a bit. He recovered several balls. Near the end, he dared to control and shoot, taking advantage of the downpour at the Nuevo Gasómetro.

Alan Velasco (7)

Playing out on the left, he was very active from the final third onward. Every time the ball came to his feet, he drove forward looking for the opposition box. He formed a great tandem with Lautaro Blanco, and they used that connection to torment the entire San Lorenzo defense.

Leonel Flores (8)

With confirmation that he will be called up to the Argentina national team, he had a tremendous match. He combined very well with Lozano to break through CASLA’s defensive line. Right on the touchline, when he seemed trapped, he would stop the ball, feint, and find a way to get a cross in. He looked up and assisted the Uruguayan for the partial 1-0.

Miguel Merentiel (9)

One of the Beast’s best matches. Very active inside the box. In the opening minute he couldn’t control a long pass from Paredes that left him one-on-one with the goalkeeper. From then on, he owned the entire area. He had several chances to find the net. With his head, with his left foot (he couldn’t quite connect), and with his right. A great backheel set up the Ruso alone against the keeper. After so much persistence, he got his reward: he got in front of Emiliano Amor and simply pushed the ball into the back of the net.

Marco Pellegrino (7)

He came on for Jagger at the start of the second half. He showed a very high level. He became impossible to get past. They tested him in the air and on the ground. He won both ways. A spectacular block inside the box to prevent San Lorenzo’s 1-0, which led to Lozano’s goal.

Carlos Palacios (6)

He came on at a difficult moment in the match: torrential rain. He led a counterattack after winning the ball back in midfield, but the puddles stopped the danger from continuing. The ball got stuck on him.

Ángel Romero (5)

Like the Chilean, he came on when the pitch was impossible to play on. He had a chance to go one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper, but the water played an important role.

Rodolfo Arruabarrena (10)

A perfectly planned match. After qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana semifinals, he again named the same team that took the field at the Morumbí. From minute one, they were the clear dominators of the game. Every player rose to the occasion, delivering a collective performance of the highest level.
