Manchester City dropped important points in Norway in their stunning 3-1 loss to Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League.
A brace from Kasper Høgh and a magnificent second-half strike from Jens Petter Hauge handed the underdogs a commanding lead.
Rayan Cherki pulled one back for Manchester City, but Rodri’s late dismissal ensured there would be no comeback.
The home side got off to the better start and created their first chance after just two minutes. Høgh carried the ball into the penalty area, but his pass was cleared by Tijjani Reijnders, allowing Patrick Berg to shoot from the edge of the box.
After that, it was business as usual. Bodø/Glimt sat deep in their own half and allowed the Citizens to dictate possession.
But the Norwegians struck first. Ole Didrik Blomberg burst into the penalty area and lifted the ball to the far post, where Høgh only had to head it into the net.
Just two minutes later, the lead was doubled. Max Alleyne lost the ball in his own half and Blomberg once again set up Høgh, who slid the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma with ease.
Shortly before the half-time whistle, Nico O’Reilly delivered the ball into the middle, but Erling Haaland put his effort just wide of the goal.
In the 52nd minute, Bodø/Glimt thought they had made it 3-0. Hauge passed to Høgh, who scored for the third time on the evening, but he was narrowly offside when the ball was played.
Moments later, however, the goal did arrive. Hauge skipped past Rodri with a step-over and curled a beautiful strike from distance into the right corner.
City responded immediately. After Blomberg misplaced a pass near the edge of his own penalty area, O’Reilly laid the ball off to Cherki, who slotted it into the bottom-left corner.
But any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished. Within two minutes, Rodri received two yellow cards for separate tactical fouls, leaving Manchester City a man down.
From there, Bodø/Glimt played with control, securing their first Champions League win in Arctic temperatures.
