Ibrox Noise caught up with well-respected Macedonian journalist Filip Mishov, the man who exclusively broke the Bojan Miovski to Rangers story in the first place. We wanted to know just what a man who knows him well thought of Rangers’ new signing, and his take on Miovski’s prospects at Ibrox in this exclusive Bojan Miovski interview.

Is Bojan Miovski considered the biggest football star in Macedonia? Does he receive more attention than other sports stars there, for example?

“Even though Bojan Miovski is quite popular at the moment, I wouldn’t say that he’s the biggest football star, but his popularity is definitely on the rise given his performances over the past few years. And no, I wouldn’t say that he receives more attention in comparison to the other sports stars as football isn’t really the most popular sport in Macedonia, it’s handball, and the handball players are enjoying much more attention.”

In the Old Firm match, he was starved of service but the potential was there. How do you believe Rangers should play to his strengths?

“Bojan Miovski did very well on his debut, but unfortunately, the Macedonian striker didn’t have a lot of chances to score. In my opinion, Rangers are expected to dominate in most of the matches in the Scottish Premiership and with that being said, the 26-year-old should have plenty of opportunities to score from positional play, but also, he’s very dangerous in transitional play and counter-attacking football, which will come handy against the likes of Celtic and in the Europa League too.Furthermore, Bojan Miovski thrives when given a through ball with plenty of space to exploit, as seen during his two-year spell with Aberdeen and finally, he’s a striker who makes a lot of running in behind defences, giving the coaches a variety of options on how to use him. Overall, I believe he’ll do well at Rangers, if provided the service and given the trust by the coach.”

Why do you believe he didn’t manage to deliver in Spain?

“Honestly, I don’t believe it’s down to only one thing, but I think Girona made a mistake by making too many changes during last summer and additionally, they were victims of their own success from 2023/24, when they definitely overachieved. They struggled a lot as a team last season with many new players coming in and their style of play drastically changed, which didn’t really suit him.Bojan admitted himself after the end of last season in my exclusive interview with him for RG that he had a poor season and went into some of the things that he believed that contributed to his and their difficult season, and I believe it’s best to hear more from him on the topic.”

Were you surprised he replicated and improved on his Budapest form in Scotland? Or did you expect him to shine at Aberdeen?

“No, I really wasn’t surprised that Bojan Miovski did well at Aberdeen after leaving Hungary as I expected him to do so given his qualities. Also, I believe that joining Aberdeen was the best thing he could’ve done at the time, given that both the club and the coach, Jim Goodwin had full trust in his potential, which gave him confidence to take the next step and thrive in the Scottish Premiership.”

He believes Rangers are already a better team than Celtic, which may be a little hard to agree with! Do you share his view?

“Well, as a sports journalist, it would be foolish of me to say it just like that that Rangers are currently better than Celtic given the latter’s dominance over the past decade or so and all the experience that Brendan Rodgers has across the squad, but with the right plan and development, Rangers have the potential to fight for the title and be better than Celtic in the future.”

Describe Bojan Miovski’s style and game, in a general sense.

“I think that my answer to the second question is closely connected to this one, if you understand.”

Do you think he can one day play in the Premier League?

“Yes, without a doubt.”

And what kind of a person would you describe him as?

“I have already interviewed him a few times and I get the impression that he is a polite and fun lad to be around, coming from a well-behaved family.”

Ibrox Noise thanks Filip for his time!
