Liverpool will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16 first leg of the Champions League on Wednesday night at Parc des Princes, and it’s going to be a close contest.
The Reds have been phenomenal under Arne Slot this season, and they are leading the Premier League table with a big margin. They also topped the group phase of the Champions League.
At the same time, the knockout stages bring different challenges, and Liverpool cannot take PSG lightly.
The French giants have won ten games in a row in all competitions and haven’t lost a game since late November. Like Liverpool, they are also leading the table by 13 points, and it promises to be a close contest.
Former Reds midfielder Bolo Zenden thinks Liverpool could edge the French champions in the second leg at Anfield.
He said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Paris St-Germain are running away with the French league so a common problem is when they play in the Champions League knowing where they stand.
“I don’t want to push Liverpool into the favourite role, but I think they could be the team that goes through with the second leg at home.”
This could be a dangerous game for Liverpool, and while they are flying high in the Premier League, PSG can pose more of a threat than Benfica.
The French giants have some big match players, and they could cause problems. Liverpool won’t be doing any different, and the main task will be to make sure they remain in the contest after the first leg.
A win away from home would be terrific, but even a draw won’t be a bad result, either.
Liverpool are also in the final of the Carabao Cup, but they are taking one game at a time. Cody Gakpo is doubtful for the clash, but the Reds winger has still made the trip to Paris.
