Bologna Form Guide: Recent Results & Table Position

Bologna had a promising first half of the season, but they have been enduring torrid times since the turn of the year. In their last eight Serie A fixtures, they only registered one win and one draw, while suffering six defeats. The Emilians are currently riding a four-match losing streak in Serie A that saw them plummet to 10th place in the standings.

Due to their league woes, Vincenzo Italiano’s men will try to rescue their campaign by finding success in cup competitions. But while achieving Europa League glory could be far-fetched, retaining the Coppa Italia might be a more plausible objective, especially with home-court advantage.

The Rossoblu had begun their campaign by beating local rivals Parma in the Round of 16, and they’ll be looking to advance to the semi-final at Lazio’s expense.

Lazio Form Guide: Recent Results & Table Position

Similar to Bologna, Lazio are having a tough time catching up with the Top Six spots in Serie A, as they currently sit 8th in the league. Therefore, the domestic cup represents their most realistic path towards European qualification. The Aquile have already eliminated a heavyweight in AC Milan, and knocking out the defending champions would cement them as a main contender.

Since suffering a beatdown at the hands of Como, the Biancocelesti have been on a three-match undefeated run, having registered a stalemate in Lecce, earned a last-gasp win over Genoa, and returned from Turin with a 2-2 draw after squandering a two-goal lead.

Bologna vs Lazio: Match Insights

  • Most recent meeting between Bologna and Lazio: The two sides shared the spoils at the Stadio Olimpico in December, with Jens Odgaard responding to his compatriot, Gustav Isaksen.
  • Bologna’s miserable home record: Bologna have failed to win at the Dall’Ara in their last seven outings across all competitions, registering two draws and five defeats.
  • Breaking the Dall’Ara taboo: Lazio haven’t beaten the Emilian club in an away contest since December 2018, when Simone Inzaghi earned a 2-0 win over his older brother, Filippo.

Expected Starting Lineups

Bologna (4-2-3-1):  Skorupski; Joao Mario, Lucumì, Heggem, Miranda; Freuler, Sohm; Bernardeschi, Ferguson, Cambiaghi; Castro.

Lazio (4-3-3):  Provedel; Marusic, Romagnoli, Provstgaard, Pellegrini; Dele-Bashiru, Cataldi, Taylor; Isaksen, Maldini, Pedro.

Predictions: Bologna 1-2 Lazio

While Maurizio Sarri’s men have been struggling to break down smaller opposition, they have found much more success against bigger opponents who tend to push forward. This was the case in their cup win over AC Milan, and also in their encounters against Juventus, as they were one minute away from completing the league double over the Turin-based giants.

Therefore, Lazio will be hoping that Bologna maintain their adventurous approach, as they would relish the opportunity to slice them open on the counter.
