After a woeful Coppa Italia exit, Lazio visit Bologna for their Serie A opener on Monday at 18:30 at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
Lazio won all six friendlies, mostly against lower-tier sides, with only Frosinone from Serie A. They were then knocked out by Serie B Mantova 2-0 at Stadio Olimpico. As reported by The Laziali, Gennaro Gattuso could start Frattesi, and Danilho Doekhi and Alfonso Pedraza should make their Serie A bows.
Bologna thrived under Thiago Motta, qualifying for the Champions League in 2024, then lifted the Coppa Italia in 2025 under Vincenzo Italiano. Domenico Tedesco begins his maiden Serie A season after a shaky pre-season, losing to Arminia Bielefeld 0-4, Pisa 0-4 and Brighton 0-1, and beating Iraklis 1-0 and Cambuur 2-0.
The Rossoblu sold Santiago Castro to Roma, Jhon Lucumi to Juventus and Remo Freuler to Olympiakos, and added Artem Dovbyk, Roberto Piccoli and Mikel Amondarain.
Last term they drew at the Olimpico, before Lazio eliminated Bologna in the Coppa Italia at the Dall’Ara and won 2-0 in Serie A. This is the coaches’ first meeting, and Kenneth Taylor settled the cup tie from the spot before scoring twice in the league.
Expected line-ups. Bologna 4-3-3: Skorupski, Zortea, Vitik, Heggem, Miranda, Bernardeschi, Moro, Ferguson, Orsolini, Dovbyk, Rowe. Lazio 4-3-3: Mandas, Marusic, Doekhi, Provstgaard, Pedraza, Frattesi, Rovella, Taylor, Noslin, Dia, Zaccagni.
Prediction: Bologna 1-1 Lazio, with a response expected from the visitors, yet defensive cohesion and finishing doubts persist as Bologna bed in.
