'Bolton Wanderers are in a unique position' - Reaction given to big Trotters blow

Bolton Wanderers were recently hit with an irritating injury update on a key player ahead of their push for promotion in League One.

Bolton remain within a chance of winning a timely promotion back into the Championship this season under the management of Steven Schumacher.

The Trotters are currently sat third in the League One table, and it seems likely that they'll have to force their way through the play-offs once the regular season reaches a conclusion.

Schumacher's side are unlikely to be able to force their way into the automatic promotion places, especially considering they struggle to capitalise on second-placed, Cardiff City's recent struggles.

It's been seven years since Bolton last played their football in the second tier, and the club's supporters will be desperate to see their side make a long-awaited return to the Championship.

One player that Schumacher will be eager to have back involved ahead of the promotion run-in is Corey Blackett-Taylor, who has suffered an injury setback. The Bolton boss recently issued an update on Blackett-Taylor's injury problems, and revealed that it won't be a 'quick fix', which is far from ideal news.

“He's had a scan. Unfortunately, it's a serious one. It's a decent grade, a thigh strain, high up on the tendon, so it's not going to be a quick fix."

Blackett-Taylor has made seven appearances for Bolton in all competitions this season, and has chipped in with seven goals and two assists in his time with the club, whilst being on loan from Championship outfit, Derby County.

'We're going to miss him'

Bolton Wanderers fan pundit, Liam O'Meara issued his thoughts on this frustrating injury update on Blackett-Taylor, and was quick to highlight some of the potential replacements that Schumacher could turn to moving forward.

"It is a blow because he's made a real impact, both as a starter, and off the bench. So, we're going to miss him, there's no question about that.

"But we do have other players, and we are quite well stacked in our wide positions. Ibrahim Cissoko, Thierry Gale, Rob Apter, they're our players that are fighting for positions off the bench a little bit at the moment. So, what you're looking for is one of them to step up ane make it their own over these next few weeks."

Bolton's unique position in League One

Bolton are highly unlikely to catch Cardiff City in the automatic promotion places, and it would take a major slip-up for the Trotters to throw away their position in the League One play-offs.

O'Meara went on to state that the current position that Bolton find themselves in could be the ideal opportunity for players to stake a serious claim for a regular spot in Steven Schumacher's starting XI, especially when players of Blackett-Taylor's quality have been ruled out.

"I think Bolton Wanderers are in a unique position where we're probably not going to get into the top-two unless something drastic happens.

"We are pretty secure in the play-offs, so in terms of being ready for the play-offs, that is a key part of this, and in the meantime, it gives one of the others a great opportunity to step up."

Bolton are set to return to action this weekend, as they prepare to take on relegation-threatened Port Vale on Saturday, in what has the potential to be a tricky test away from home, especially when Port Vale have shown much-needed improvement in recent months.
