Huddersfield Town have been linked with a move for Bolton Wanderers midfielder George Thomason this summer.

According to Alan Nixon, the 23-year-old is on the Terriers’ shortlist of options as Lee Grant looks to bolster his first team squad.

It’s been claimed that Brad Potts is their preferred option at this time, but that an approach for Thomason could materialise if Preston North End are unwilling to offload the 31-year-old.

Thomason has come through the ranks of the Bolton academy system, and has proven a key player in recent years.

When asked about Thomason’s potential move to Huddersfield, FLW’s Bolton fan pundit Liam O’Meara claimed that it’s a deal that might suit all parties.

He believes every player in the squad has a price at the moment, and that it might be time for a refresh for both the midfielder and the club at this stage after a disappointing previous campaign.

“I think pretty much every player in the Bolton squad has a price at the moment,” O’Meara told Football League World.

“I think they are looking to bring in a lot of new blood.

“Now, George Thomason is a player I like, I think he is a very good player and someone who, on his day, can be a dominating midfielder.

“But he didn’t have his best season last season, and inconsistency did come into his game.

“I think it could be one of those moves that’s good for everybody.

“It allows George’s career to go in a new direction, being a new signing at a club can make a big difference.

“And, Bolton do seem to be wanting to bring in different types of midfielders, so it could be one of those where yes it is a transfer to a League One rival, but it could be best for all parties.

“Would wish him the best of luck if he was to move on.”

Thomason made 38 appearances in League One last season, contributing four goals and three assists.

Thomason sale would make sense if Steven Schumacher wants to go in a new direction

If Bolton are weighing up going in a different direction with the type of midfielder they want to play every week next season, then moving on Thomason might be for the best.

Losing him at just 23, when he still has the potential to continue developing his game, could prove risky, especially if he helps a League One rival to promotion.

However, if Huddersfield come in with a reasonable offer, then it might be worth considering in order to raise extra funds that could help Bolton in the transfer market.

It remains to be seen whether an offer with be forthcoming, but it might be a good time to cash in on Thomason for the right price.
