The manager of the League One side has been quite heavily backed this summer, with large sums of money being offered for players that they have gone after.

Evatt is trying to put together a squad that can finally get themselves over the top and win promotion back to the Championship. They've fallen short in the play-offs in the last two campaigns, with the most recent post-season disappointment coming at the hands of Oxford United in the play-off final, at Wembley.

The boss later admitted that he considered leaving his job after the painful 2-0 defeat at the home of English football.

He ended up sticking with Wanderers, and is now trying to right the wrongs of last season. In order to aid their hopeful promotion push, Bolton have gone after top targets like Stade Brest's Karamoko Dembélé, Luton Town's John McAtee and Kilmarnock's Danny Armstrong, as per the Bolton News.

They'll be tough to get through the door, and Evatt has already admitted that they have missed out on one of their top targets. But it's not because of a lack of trying.

Bolton Wanderers' seven-figure bids

Wanderers have made up to four offers worth at least £1 million in this summer window, according to the boss. Evatt told the Bolton News: "In this window we have made three or four seven-figure bids for players, which is a huge statement for us. But we are trying to sign players who have a high ceiling and who we think are still good value at those figures.

"Obviously, the clubs they are at value them higher at the moment and we might have to draw a line in the sand and stick to our principles, see what develops as the window goes on.

"Things are changing daily at the moment, things that are going in a positive direction, things that aren’t, but that’s just the transfer window.

"We have to be patient to bring in what we want. We have a clear plan and idea what that looks like and we’ll work hard to make sure it happens."

Evatt is fully aware of the level of backing that he has received from those at the club in the transfer market. "The board have been incredible, making significant finance available for us – the biggest budget I have had since I have been here," continued the manager. "We just have to make sure we get the right ones in.

"To be honest, we don’t tend to spin lots of plates. We have tried to ear-mark who we want and go after them. We have made our stance pretty clear.

"We lost out on one, who went to a top Championship team, and that is probably the first time we have lost out on a player since I have been here. We have to swallow that, take it, but it is the calibre of player we are going after, those who are better than this level and ready to play in the next one should we get there."

He added that, once qualifying is done for the Europa League and the Conference League, they will know where they stand better on some potential signings, as per the News.

Bolton and Ian Evatt have to go all out this summer

There's a chance, maybe even a good one, that the 2024/25 season will be Evatt's last at the Toughsheet Community Stadium if he fails to win promotion. It was almost the case last time, but he was the one that made the decision then - it might not be up to him next time.

Not only is this a potential last chance saloon for the boss, but, if Bolton and their board are serious about promotion, which they certainly look to be, then they will have to spend the type of money that Evatt has talked about.
