All the latest news surrounding Bolton Wanderers
Bolton Wanderers are preparing for a big League One season ahead under Steven Schumacher.
The Whites had a disappointing campaign last year, finishing outside of the play-offs just 12 months after reaching the final of the promotion shootout.
Ian Evatt’s time at the club came to an end, with Schumacher replacing him in January with the team adrift from the top six.
The League One side managed to get back up to eighth in the standings, but missed out on the play-offs by 10 points.
Here we take a look at all the latest news surrounding Bolton as they prepare for next season…
Bolton have agreed a deal with Swedish side IFK Norrkoping for midfielder Jesper Ceesay.
According to The Bolton News, the Whites are closing in on a transfer for the 22-year-old.
The Sweden underage international is set to make the switch to English football, with the League One side eyeing a permanent deal on a player entering the final six months of his current contract.
It has been reported that Bolton will pay £350,000 to sign him this summer, instead of waiting until the January window to bring him to the team as a free agent.
While it’s believed personal terms are yet to be agreed, it’s not expected to be a major stumbling block to completing the move.
Bolton have had an offer for Johnny Kenny rejected by Celtic, as they eye a move for the forward.
According to The Scottish Sun, the Glasgow outfit are holding out for up to £1 million before cashing in on the player.
Schumacher is keen to bolster his attacking options, and has set his sights on the 22-year-old.
However, an offer in the region of £500,000 has been knocked back by the Scottish giants.
It remains to be seen whether Bolton are willing to meet the six-figure demands of Celtic.
According to Alan Nixon, Bolton have cut ties with scouting firm Ludonautics after a two-year relationship.
It’s believed that the firm will be replaced with the arrival of new staff, as the Whites look to shake up their recruitment strategy.
The firm was run by current Liverpool CEO Michael Edwards, but the League One side have opted to end their relationship after the team took a step backwards last year.
This development comes as Bolton look to make changes behind the scenes that can bolster their chances of a return to the Championship next season.
The first round of the EFL Cup will take place in early August, with Bolton learning their opponent late last week.
It has been confirmed that Schumacher’s side will host Championship club Sheffield Wednesday on the week of 11/12 August.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 17 March 2023, in which they drew 1-1.
The victor will progress to the second round, which will introduce the Premier League sides not competing in European competition to the tournament for this season.
