Bolton Wanderers have agreed a deal worth around $1 million (£750k) with Austin FC for Canadian winger Jayden Nelson

Bolton Wanderers have enjoyed a busy summer window so far, and with less than a week to go until the transfer deadline, the Trotters are looking to add more firepower to their attacking ranks, having agreed a deal to sign Austin FC winger and Canadian international Jayden Nelson.

According to The Athletic's Tom Bogert, Bolton have agreed a deal with Texas-based outfit Austin FC to sign Canadian winger Nelson for around $1 million (£750k) this summer.

Nelson, 23, will become Bolton's 11th addition of the summer, as Steven Schumacher adds the final pieces to his squad's puzzle this summer ahead of a tricky year in the Championship.

Nelson was a part of Jesse Marsch's Canada squad for the recent World Cup in North America, making just one appearance in the tournament for the Canucks in their final game against Morocco, and had to settle for a place on the bench in the other four games.

Having come through the youth ranks of Toronto before progressing to their first team, Nelson enjoyed spells in Europe previously with Norwegian outfit Rosenborg and German side SSV Ulm, before returning to North America with Vancouver Whitecaps in 2025.

Now with Austin FC, Bogert has reported that the winger has made his desire to try his luck in Europe clear, and Bolton have met the MLS outfit's asking price.

At 23, with experience of playing in four different countries and preparing to play in his fifth, as well as making 16 appearances for his nation, Nelson is well-experienced for his age, and will provide Schumacher with an excellent option out on the flank.

Nelson can play anywhere across the final third, but is best utilised off the left flank, where he can cut in on his preferred right foot, and will offer strong competition to the likes of Samuel Iling-Junior, Thierry Gale, and Kyliane Dong.

Schumacher is looking to add another wide option to those aforementioned players, allowing him to be flexible in his selections on the flanks, with Nelson capable of immediately pushing for a starting berth in Greater Manchester.

At 23, Nelson still has ample time to iron out weaknesses in his game, and Bolton will be hoping to provide him with the platform to develop his ability, and make this deal look like a bargain in the future.

Nelson thrives in one-on-one duels with defenders, completing 43 successful dribbles last season in MLS, as per FotMob, and will help Bolton to progress the ball up the pitch and offer a creative and goal threat in the final third.

A widely-hailed prospect throughout his formative years, the gifted wide-man was previously described as having "a lot of talent" by one-time Swansea City boss Bob Bradley and will now be bidding to transition that reputation across the Atlantic and into the Championship with Bolton.
