Bolton Wanderers sitting two points off the top of the table and having three games in hand puts them in a very strong position for promotion this season.

The Trotters have been performing very well in League One, with them just missing out on the play-offs last season, they will be keen to go one better this time around.

The Lancashire side were very busy in the summer transfer window, adding several players to their squad in the hopes it will boost their promotion chances.

Bolton are in a very good position for the second half of the campaign and a strong transfer window could be the difference in where they finish.

Bolton close in on Niall Ennis

It was reported by the Lancashire Telegraph, that Bolton were among the sides interested in signing Niall Ennis from Blackburn Rovers.

It’s now been claimed by Alan Nixon via his Patreon account, that Bolton are close to signing Ennis on loan for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old has struggled for regular first team action since joining Blackburn from Plymouth Argyle and he could now be set for another spell in League One.

Nixon adds that the Trotters are looking to add more firepower to their side and Ennis is willing to join them in their bid for promotion.

It has also been reported that Bolton have beaten fellow League One side Barnsley in the race for Ennis and a deal could now be concluded rather quickly.

Bolton reluctantly accepted a bid from Championship side Bristol City over the summer for George Thomason, only for the player to then reject the move.

He has since become a firm fixture in the Trotters’ first team and Ian Evatt was asked after their FA Cup replay against Luton Town whether he’s concerned higher bids could arrive.

He told The Bolton News: “My phone is off from now until February 1!

“We have some assets on the pitch now, and it is exactly what we wanted to do when I took the reins four years ago, build a squad and improve people and players. George definitely comes into that category, but there are others as well. I am really happy with the way our squad is developing.”

Fresh injury could see Bolton enter transfer market

Bolton played their FA Cup third-round replay against Luton Town on Tuesday night and despite taking an early lead, the Trotters were beaten 2-1 on the night to exit the competition.

During that game, defender Will Forrester had to come off after suffering a hamstring issue.

Forrester had to be replaced at the break and if it proves more serious than first thought, it could mean the club has to act in the transfer window.

“He has got a slight hamstring niggle. We don’t know whether it is just fatigue, cramp or coming from his back perhaps, or if there is a small strain in there,” Evatt told The Bolton News.

“We will have to see how he responds overnight and then make a decision on getting an image to see what we are dealing with. It doesn’t look too serious, but it is very early days for us to make a call on that.”
