Bolton Wanderers are facing another year in League One after missing out on the play-offs last season.
Bolton were widely tipped as one of the promotion favourites at the start of last season, but a poor first half of the campaign saw them part company with long-serving manager Ian Evatt in January.
Evatt's replacement, Steven Schumacher, made a strong start to his tenure, but the Trotters were unable to maintain their improved form under the 41-year-old, and after failing to win any of their final six games, they finished in an underwhelming eighth place.
It has been a busy start to the summer transfer window for Bolton, with six new signings arriving at the Toughsheet Community Stadium so far this summer in Teddy Sharman-Lowe, Richard Taylor, Xavier Simons, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Thierry Gale and Sam Dalby.
There have also been a number of high-profile departures as Schumacher rebuilds his squad, with the likes of Nathan Baxter, Joel Coleman, Gethin Jones and Ricardo Santos leaving the club at the end of their contracts, while star striker Aaron Collins has made a shock switch to League Two side MK Dons.
When asked what transfer demands he would send to the board, FLW's Bolton Wanderers fan pundit Liam O'Meara urged the club to bring in a full-back, goalkeeper and striker before the end of the window, and he told the Trotters to target Birmingham City's Alfie May to help bolster the forward line.
"I think we need cover at full-back," Liam told FLW.
"I think we do need another right-back as I don't think Jordi Osei-Tutu is seen as a right-back option fully by Steven Schumacher.
"I also think that Josh Dacres-Cogley needs competition at right-back, so that would be a priority.
"A second goalkeeper is something that we would absolutely need as we're looking light there at the moment after Luke Southwood left for Bristol Rovers.
"I also think another striker option is really important.
"Yes, we've got Sam Dalby and John McAtee can play in that position, but I do think we need another option.
"Personally, I like the look of Alfie May.
"I know that would be expensive, but that profile is what I would want."
After losing Baxter and Southwood, Bolton are in need of another goalkeeper this summer to provide back-up to Sharman-Lowe, while recruiting another full-back would help to strengthen a vulnerable defence that conceded an alarming 70 goals last season.
However, given that he was their top scorer with 19 goals last season, replacing Collins following his surprise move to MK Dons could be the biggest task for Schumacher in the remainder of the window, and the Trotters may need to spend big on a proven number nine.
After scoring 27 goals for Charlton Athletic in the 2023-24 season before hitting 17 goals in Birmingham's title-winning campaign last term, there are few strikers with a better track record in League One than May, so he would be a worthwhile investment for Wanderers, even if he may be relatively costly.
