Manchester United are continuing to monitor Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, though interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres is ‘much more concrete’.
Boniface is a player under consideration as Manchester United consider the signing of another centre-forward, as the club seek established support for Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
The Nigeria international burst onto the scene at Leverkusen last season, where he scored 21 goals during the club’s German league and cup double. He was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Season and included in the divisional Team of the Year.
Leverkusen are wary of interest from England, with Chelsea having also tracked Boniface. Sky Germany are reporting that the German champions are keen to extend the player’s contract until 2029 to ward off suitors.
Despite interest in Boniface, Manchester United’s pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres is described as ‘much more concrete’.
Gyokeres emerged as arguably Europe’s most in-demand forward under the management of new United manager Ruben Amorim at Sporting. Having signed in a €20m deal from Championship club Coventry City, was was the Primeira Liga’s leading scorer and Player of the Season as Sporting won the title in 2023/24.
He has scored 67 goals in 71 games for the Portuguese champions and could be allowed to leave for a fee of around €70m (£57.9m) at the end of the campaign.
