Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmatí has reportedly become the best paid player in women’s football after signing a new four-year deal with Barcelona.
That is according to ESPN sources, who state that the Spanish midfielder now earns in excess of the €600,000 taken home by the top earners in the Women’s Super League and National Women’s Soccer League.
The 26-year-old, who came through the Barcelona academy, has established herself as one of the very best players in the game, winning three Champions Leagues and the World Cup, as well as multiple individual honours, in recent years.
Her previous deal had been due to expire next year but she has now penned terms until 2028.
With the new season approaching, she is also set to hit the 100-goal mark for Barça, having scored 96 goals in 275 appearances for the club.
