Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 win at Aston Villa hauled them out of the relegation zone at West Ham United's expense. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the result has triggered a major shift in bookmakers' predicted final table affecting Leeds United.
On Friday, Leeds beat Burnley 3-1 to move nine points clear of Tottenham and seven ahead of West Ham, with Spurs having four matches left compared to Leeds' three.
West Ham then lost 3-0 at Brentford on Saturday, offering Spurs the chance to climb. Tottenham took it on Sunday evening to move above the Hammers.
West Ham are now third-bottom, one point behind Spurs, three adrift of Nottingham Forest and seven short of both Leeds and Crystal Palace. Spurs sit six behind Leeds, who they host next Monday night.
Leeds might be mathematically safe by then, with West Ham hosting title-chasing Arsenal on Sunday. A Gunners victory would leave Leeds seven in front of West Ham with two games remaining, confirming the Whites' safety. Tottenham's result has added a fresh twist to the relegation fight and shifted the odds.
