Bookmakers’ revamped predicted final table, shaped by Leeds United’s 3-1 defeat of Nottingham Forest and another Tottenham setback, now drags Spurs and Crystal Palace into the relegation picture.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Daniel Farke’s side, fifth-bottom, moved three points clear of Forest and nine above the drop with Friday night’s Elland Road win.
On Saturday, third-bottom West Ham won 2-0 at second-bottom Burnley in their game in hand, trimming the gap to Leeds to six points. The result cut West Ham’s deficit to Forest to three, opened an eight-point cushion to Burnley, and left Burnley seven clear of bottom Wolves.
Leeds’ victory put them level on points with Spurs and Palace, and Tottenham then lost 2-0 at Manchester United in their game in hand. Spurs sit 14th, ahead of Leeds only on goal difference. Palace are 15th on the same margin, have a game in hand and visit Brighton on Sunday afternoon.
Bookmakers now view Wolves and Burnley as all but down, while the scrap to avoid third-bottom increasingly includes Spurs and Palace. Their updated odds also project a title race led by Arsenal from Manchester City, with Manchester United third, Aston Villa fourth, Liverpool fifth and Chelsea sixth, at respective prices of 1-6, 13-2, 50-1, 125-1, 150-1 and 250-1.
