Bookmakers are sketching the new Segunda División order, and CD Castellón sit on the fringes of the leading pack. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, they are short of the top tier but still viewed above the ordinary.
Betfair’s champion market, updated on Monday, has Girona 4.00, Real Oviedo 5.00, Mallorca 6.00, Almería 8.00 and Las Palmas 11.00 as its headline contenders. Castellón are outside that five, with sixth the first plausible frontier, though odds do not fix exact placings.
Last season they finished sixth with 72 points, 20 wins, 12 draws and 10 defeats, scoring 70. It was their first ever promotion play-off. They fell to Almería, 1-1 at Castalia then 3-2 away for a 4-3 aggregate exit.
Perceptions have shifted and Castellón no longer start as an unknown. Pablo Hernández continues as head coach after a summer renewal through 2029.
They open on Friday 14 August at 20:30 in Zubieta against Real Sociedad B. Markets back an away win, with Bet365 1.71, Sportium 1.77, Luckia 1.76, William Hill 1.75, Bwin 1.75 and Codere 1.80. Home 3.80-4.20, draw 3.60-3.90.
Goal lines tilt high. Over 2.5 is 1.67 at Bet365, 1.65 at Sportium, 1.62 at William Hill and Bwin, with under 2.5 at 2.15 on Bet365. Both teams to score is favoured at 1.62, after last season’s 5-4 in Castalia and 4-2 in Zubieta.
