Manchester United have been told that they won’t have to pay anywhere near Nottingham Forest’s £100 million valuation for Elliot Anderson.

Ever since United first established their interest in the coveted 23-year-old, reports have suggested they’d be paying the big bucks to prise him from the reluctant Forest next summer.

His continued stellar performances in the Premier League, with both the Midlands outfit and, previously, Newcastle United, have caught the attention of a host of top sides in the division – as well as Thomas Tuchel, who granted Anderson his maiden England cap back in September.

Anderson’s move to United is feasible

Anderson joins the likes of Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba on United’s shortlist, with INEOS seemingly keen to stick to their summer approach of buying Premier League-proven players; both Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have taken little to no time to transition in Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Andy Mitten also believes that amidst the board’s search for a top-quality midfielder, Anderson would be the most ‘well-positioned’ to make the switch to Old Trafford.

Forest will, understandably, do their absolute utmost to keep hold of the player, but may be forced into sanctioning a sale in the event they drop back down to the Championship next May after four seasons in the top flight.

Ben Jacobs echoed such sentiment when speaking with The United Stand today, as he revealed: “I think his price will be above £50m, but nowhere near £100m under certain circumstances, but it’s variable.

“So, if Forest go down, there’s provisions to get him a whole lot cheaper; if Forest qualify for European football, then it’s more difficult, and if United qualify for Champions League, then it’s a little easier.”

The Newcastle graduate is contracted to Forest until June 2029, having signed in a £35 million deal last year.
