There was plenty of concern this weekend when Canadian striker Promise David had to be stretchered off the pitch during Union St Gilloise’s win over Antwerp. The striker had an accidental collision with Daam Foulon that resulted in him having the leave the game. Thankfully, the injury is not as bad as had been first feared.
Union have since released a statement regarding the injury to David. The club said ‘Promise David was taken to the hospital yesterday after his collision. Initial radiological examinations showed no fractures. He was discharged with medication and will undergo additional scans and further checkups early next week’.
While this is great news for Union, it also excellent news for David who is hoping to be part of the Canada squad at the upcoming 2026 World Cup. David’s rise from Estonian football to Belgian champions and the sides key goal scorer has been seismic and it would be fitting to see him line up for Canada this summer. The 24-year-old has scored an incredible 39 goals in just 78 games for Union since joining from Nomme Kalju in Estonia, where he had scored 30 in 42 games.
Last season David scored 24 goals in 41 games as Union won their first title in over a century. So far this campaign he has 15 goals in 37 games, with two in the sides debut Champions League campaign as well. Union are chasing a second title and a domestic cup and will hope to get David back in time to pursue the domestic double.
