Bordeaux were held 3-3 at Avranches on Saturday, ending their push for direct promotion to the new Ligue 3 as La Roche-sur-Yon sealed top spot with a 2-0 win at Locminé.

According to Le Progres, Bordeaux started the final day one point behind La Roche-sur-Yon with a favourable head-to-head. The draw meant they could not overhaul their rivals.

Rio Mavuba’s side could not reclaim first place in National 2 Group A, ending the campaign three points back.

They have not secured sporting promotion to the new Ligue 3, a professional division replacing the National.

They are the second-best runners-up across the three National 2 groups, behind Bourges in Group B, and would be promoted only if three National clubs suffer administrative relegation due to financial issues or decline professional status.

Bordeaux were administratively relegated in July 2024 after a bankruptcy filing requested by their Spanish-Luxembourgish owner Gerard Lopez, dropping them from Ligue 2 to National 2.
