Bordeaux urge FFF to let Coupe de France tie at Saintes go ahead | OneFootball

Bordeaux remain under threat of judicial liquidation and want to play their Coupe de France third-round tie at ES Saintes on Sunday.

A day after ES Saintes said they would not stage the game this weekend, Bordeaux appealed to local authorities and the French Football Federation to ensure it goes ahead. The club said in a statement that football should be settled on the pitch.

The tie has already been postponed once and is now in serious doubt after the Saintes vice-president said the club would not organise it because of an estimated €40,000 cost to safely host 2,000 Bordeaux fans, including 200 ultras.

Bordeaux said it understands the burden on an amateur club and the associated security demands. It added that the club and the authorities had already warned the federation about difficulties around the regional phase, particularly when disproportionate organisational and safety requirements fall on amateur sides.

The club says it is working with all parties to find an arrangement suited to the stadium and the circumstances. It is also liaising with supporters to encourage an organised and respectful trip.

With no solution in sight on Friday morning, Bordeaux urged all stakeholders to continue talks so the match can be staged in conditions that guarantee everyone’s safety.
