Borussia Dortmund and Genk fail to reach agreement in matter of Konstantinos Karetsas purchase | OneFootball

Sky Sports claims that Borussia Dortmund remain locked in negotiations with KRC Genk over attacking midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas. Per the Pay-TV channel, Dortmund offered approximately €30m upfront, an additional €5m in performance-related bonuses, and a 20-percent sell-on clause. Genk nevertheless continue to demand a guaranteed €35m and an overall package potentially worth €40m.

The clubs failed to bridge the gap during direct talks earlier this week. Dortmund have not yet improved their latest bid, rendering it unlikely that Karetsas will join the squad before Sunday’s departure for the pre-season tour of Japan.

The 18-year-old has already agreed personal terms on a contract valid through 2031. The remaining obstacle therefore concerns only the transfer fee.

As noted in a recent Get German Football News report, Karetsas possesses a profile Dortmund currently lack. The left-footer primarily operates as an attacking midfielder but can also start from the right and drift into central areas.

His close control, agility and ability to carry possession through congested spaces render him especially effective between the lines. Dortmund’s latest offer already represents a major investment in the Greek international.

Genk’s continued resistance nevertheless leaves BVB facing a clear choice: meet the Belgian club’s demands or risk losing one of their principal summer targets.
