Borussia Dortmund have enquired about signing Serbian talent Andrija Maksimović (17) from Red Star Belgrade, according to Patrick Berger, but face strong competition from Europe’s elite with Manchester City, Juventus and Liverpool all showing an interest.
But at this stage, nothing is concrete. Maksimović made his debut for the Serbia national team on Saturday, becoming the youngest player to do so. As per Berger, the 17-year-old attacker is already planning the next step in his career but will cost upwards of €15m for any potential suitor.
Berger further adds that there has been initial discussions between the clubs, but nothing between Die Schwarzgelben and the player’s entourage.
Maksimović, who has scored four and created three in 11 games across all competitions this season, has a contract at Red Star Belgrade until 2027.
Borussia Dortmund have done an excellent job in securing the best talent from around Europe in recent years: Ousmane Dembele, Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham, with the Westphalian outfit a renowned place for players to develop.
Should BVB push to sign Maksimović, it would again be another statement signing to beat some of Europe’s top teams to sign the best young talents.
