Sky Germany reports that Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac is a candidate to become Manchester United’s new head coach in the summer.

The Premier League side have hired former midfielder Michael Carrick as their interim head coach for the rest of the season, but are looking for a permanent replacement for former manager Ruben Amorim.

Kovac is said to be on United’s shortlist, while he was also considered at Chelsea before they hired Liam Rosenior as Enzo Maresca’s replacement.

The Dortmund head coach still has a contract at the club until 2027 after he extended his deal earlier this season.

Dortmund’s record under Niko Kovac:

Since taking charge a year ago, only Bayern Munich have performed better than Dortmund in the Bundesliga. While this season, die Schwarzgelben are second in the Bundesliga with a six-point gap over third, have just recorded their best first half of the season in seven years and are still within reach of making the top eight of the Champions League.
