Borussia Dortmund receive injury boost ahead of Bundesliga clash vs Mainz | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund have struggled with defensive injuries this season, but Niko Kovač received a welcome injury boost ahead of their Bundesliga clash against Mainz.

While on loan defender Aarón Anselmino “isn’t 100 percent fit,” Kovač confirmed that Niklas Süle has partially integrated into the squad. Whether the central-defender is fit enough for the squad, the Croat will monitor the player during Friday’s training session.

Süle’s imminent return comes at a key moment for Borussia Dortmund, who sit two points behind leaders Bayern Munich. In their opening four Bundesliga games, Kovač has had to field somewhat a makeshift defence with youngster Filippo Mane making his debut, and Julian Ryerson – a right-wing back – playing in a central position.

Kovač also confirmed that Julien Duranville is still undergoing rehabilitation and that Emre Can is making progress, but that summer signing Fabio Silva could be named in Dortmund’s matchday squad for the first time following his €22m arrival from Wolves
