It’s been a busy summer for Borussia Dortmund.

Having added Konstantinos Karetsas, Giannis Konstantelias, Joey Veerman and Joane Gadou to their ranks before securing a loan move for Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri on deadline day, there could have been another major arrival at Signal Iduna Park this summer.

Sport Bild report that Premier League side Newcastle United made concrete enquiries about signing Felix Nmecha, and were willing to send Nick Woltemade – who has since joined Juventus on loan – in the opposite direction, plus several millions. However, with Nmecha at the forefront of Dortmund’s plans this season, Newcastle’s move for the Germany international was swiftly rejected.

Niko Kovac’s side kickstarted their Bundesliga campaign with a 2-0 victory over Hamburg, which preceded a 5-0 win over HEBC in the DFB Pokal on Tuesday night, ahead of travelling to Sinsheim for their league game against Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon (kick-off: 15:30 local time).
