Borussia Dortmund team news

Borussia Dortmund face significant injury concerns ahead of Friday’s clash. Jobe Bellingham will miss the match after receiving a two-game suspension for his red card against Freiburg in the 53rd minute.

Manager Niko Kovač will need to navigate a crowded treatment room, with Waldemar Anton and Aaron Anselmino both ruled out with thigh injuries. Julian Brandt (ankle) and Marcel Sabitzer (muscle stiffness) are also doubtful for the fixture.

Additionally, Ramy Bensebaini is unavailable as he has departed for international duty with Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Salih Özcan remains sidelined with an Achilles injury, and Julian Brandt is sidelined until at least mid-January due to his ankle injury.

Borussia Mönchengladbach also face a considerable injury crisis that will test their squad depth. Tim Kleindienst (post-surgery), Franck Honorat (calf), and Robin Hack (knee) remain significant absentees for the visitors. Fabio Chiarodia (hip injury), Nathan N’Goumou (Achilles), and Marvin Friedrich (ankle) are also sidelined ahead of the Signal Iduna Park clash. Jan Urbich is unavailable due to illness, further limiting Eugen Polanski’s options.

Form

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund’s recent form has been inconsistent, with their last five Bundesliga matches producing two wins and three draws. Most recently, they drew 1-1 with SC Freiburg on December 14, when Ramy Bensebaini opened the scoring in the 31st minute before Jobe Bellingham’s red card in the 53rd minute forced them to defend with ten men.

Lucas Höler equalised for Freiburg in the 75th minute, extending Dortmund’s unbeaten run but leaving the coaching staff frustrated with their inability to convert chances.

In other competitions, Dortmund also failed to win their last two matches as they lost against Bayer Leverkusen (0-1) in the DFB Pokal and drew with Bodo/Glimt (2-2) in the Champions League last week.

Borussia Monchengladbach

Most recently, they suffered a heavy 3-1 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg on December 13, when Patrick Wimmer scored twice (4th and 34th minutes) with Mohamed Amoura netting another in the 30th minute. An own goal by Konstantinos Koulierakis in the 22nd minute was their only consolation. They currently sit in 12th position with 16 points from 14 matches in the Bundesliga.

Predicted lineups

Borussia Dortmund: Kobel; Sule, Can, Schlotterbeck; Ryerson, Gross, Nmecha, Svensson; Adeyemi, Chukwuemeka; Guirassy

Borussia Monchengladbach: Nicolas; Scally, Elvedi, Diks; Castrop, Reitz, Engelhardt, Netz; Machino, Reyna; Tabakovic
