Sport Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund’s chances of keeping central defender Nico Schlotterbeck could be improving.
Previously, it was reported that Schlotterbeck was already weighing up his options when it comes to a future transfer, with either a move to England or Bayern Munich on the table.
However, one of those suitors is now off the table. Liverpool had previously been linked to the 25-year-old, but they have since cooled their interest in Schlotterbeck, and he is no longer considered a top priority.
Of course, other teams in England, especially in the upper echelons of the Premier League, could be interested in the Dortmund defender.
One name that is constantly lurking is Bayern.
They have been linked with the defender for a while now, while their interest dates back to Schlotterbeck’s time with Freiburg.
Nevertheless, Bayern’s interest in the 25-year-old could be affected by what happens with Dayot Upamecano.
If the Bundesliga champions extend the contract of the Frenchman, which is looking likely, then they could also decide against signing Schlotterbeck. Even if they sell Min-Jae Kim, it remains to be seen if the German international will want to play second fiddle for several years behind Upamecano and Jonathan Tah.
