Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen shared the points in a flat 1-1 on Saturday evening, as the hosts tried to halt their poor home run. As reported by Get German Football News, Kasper Hjulmand’s side delivered a subpar display.
Gladbach started brighter. A loose pass from goalkeeper Janis Blaswich put Aleix Garcia in trouble on the edge of the box, he was robbed and Yannik Engelhardt swept in for 1-0 on his birthday.
Leverkusen created little before the break, mustering only two attempts and none on target. Fortune then smiled when one of those efforts deflected off Philipp Sander into the Gladbach net for 1-1 on the stroke of half-time.
The second half was equally subdued. Both teams registered more shots, yet neither seriously troubled Blaswich or Moritz Nicolas, and Gladbach’s best opening flashed across the face of goal with no finishing touch.
Neither camp will be content with a draw, Gladbach in particular after being the stronger side for long spells and now mired in a relegation fight where every point counts. Leverkusen also missed the chance to narrow the gap to Stuttgart in fourth after earlier results.
GGFN’s player of the match was Engelhardt, rated 7, selected for his decisive goal on his birthday. The 25-year-old, on loan from Como since the summer, has impressed in midfield alongside Rocco Reitz.
