Sky Germany reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach have rejected a fresh bid from PSV Eindhoven for defender Ko Itakura.
The new bid was said to be worth €18m and was rejected by sporting director Roland Virkus, Dutch sources report that Gladbach were demanding closer to €20m. The fee would have been a record transfer for PSV which is currently held by Hrving Lozano who joined for €15m last summer. Ultimately, Itakura will stay at Gladbach for now.
One of the other reasons behind the rejection is that Gladbach were unable to find another replacement for Itakura before Friday’s deadline. In the past couple of days, Die Fohlen had been linked with Maximilian Wöber, Bernardo and Jordan Torunarigha.
Change is still expected at Borussia Park in the final day of the transfer window. Midfielder Manu Koné is edging towards a move to Italy with Roma and AC Milan battling it out for the Olympic silver medalist’s signature. When the 23-year-old does leave Gladbach are probably not going to look for a replacement as they are already well-stocked in midfield.
