Two wins under Michael Carrick, 2-0 over City then 3-2 at Arsenal, have revived Manchester United’s hopes. According to L'Équipe, former Red Devils are encouraged, though they preach caution.

United are fourth in the Premier League, eight points off third, and host Fulham on Sunday at 15:00. Carrick took charge on 13 January.

Mark Bosnich welcomes the uplift but rules out a title push. Twelve points behind Arsenal with 15 matches left is too much, so he sees the top five and Champions League as realistic. He urges waiting until season’s end before extending Carrick and wants clearer lines on responsibilities, recruitment, management and the academy’s role.

David Bellion likens the bounce to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s start, yet stresses long-term building. He questions whether results have dulled how signings perceive the club and if the academy ethos faded, suggesting an alumnus like Carrick can restore a Mancunian soul.

Louis Saha says it is too early to call a turnaround. He sees Carrick’s imprint in tempo, aggression and calm, yet wants proof in winnable games. He adds the squad lack world-class players, perhaps aside from Bruno Fernandes, and argues asking a 20-year-old No 9 for 25 goals is incoherent.

Morgan Schneiderlin senses more enjoyment and confidence, with one-twos returning, but warns deep traumas rarely vanish overnight. He recalls United lagging rivals on sporting and medical infrastructure during his spell and says identity takes time to rebuild. Carrick’s calm demeanour and high football IQ, he adds, could restore composure.
