FC Bayern’s goalkeeping position has finally been clarified. After the 5-1 win against 1. FC Köln, the club’s management made it clear that Alexander Nübel no longer has a future with the record champions
Alexander Nübel will no longer be part of the FC Bayern squad in the coming season, sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed unequivocally after the last Bundesliga match against 1. FC Köln
„We had an exchange with his management and Alex also knows what our plans are,“ explained Freund after Munich’s 5-1 win
The Austrian also made it clear that Bayern are planning to stick with their current goalkeeping trio. „We’re going into next season with the goalkeeping trio, that’s the plan,“ said Freund, referring to Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig and Sven Ulreich
At the latest, it seems clear that Nübel no longer has any sporting prospects at Säbener Straße
President Herbert Hainer also made a clear statement on the national goalkeeper’s situation on the sidelines of the championship celebrations at Munich’s Nockherberg
„That’s not the plan at the moment. We have three goalkeepers with Neuer, Urbig and Ulreich. I’m not assuming that at the moment,“ explained Hainer when asked about a possible return of Nübel
He continued: „Nübel’s loan in Stuttgart will expire in the summer and then we’ll see what happens next. But at the moment I don’t expect him to return to FC Bayern.“
Although the 29-year-old is still under contract with the record champions until 2030, he apparently no longer plays a role in Munich’s future plans
Nübel moved from FC Schalke 04 to FC Bayern on a free transfer in the summer of 2020, but failed to make his big breakthrough in Munich

The goalkeeper only played a total of four competitive matches for Bayern, followed by two years on loan at AS Monaco and a loan spell at VfB Stuttgart in 2023
Just a few days ago, Bayern made their final decisions on the goalkeeping position and extended the contracts of Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich until 2027
At the same time, Jonas Urbig is seen internally as a long-term solution for the future in Munich’s goal.
