More Copa Libertadores quarter-final action continued on Wednesday with two games on the schedule.
Here is what went down.
The second all-Brazilian affair was another match fuelled with frustration as Botafogo and SĂŁo Paulo played out a 0-0 draw.
The hosts will feel extremely unlucky, having dominated the pitch at Olympic Stadium for all of the game and subsequently go back to the drawing board ahead of the second-leg.
Botafogo’s efforts could only be summarized by attempts going off the post and São Paulo goalkeeper Rafael kept unlucky Luiz Henrique, Jefferson Savarino and Thiago Almada at bay.
By the end of the 90 minutes the hosts registered a staggering 22 shots to six, with 65% possession of the ball but nothing to show for their control.
Instead it is São Paulo who will walk away happier of the two. Their midfielder duo of Luiz Gustavo and Damián Bobadilla will want to work on new ways to unlock their attacking team-mates ahead of the second leg.
Scorer: Lima 88′
There is still a lot left to play for in the second leg of this all-Brazilian fixture despite Fluminense grinding out a late 1-0 win over Atlético Mineiro.
A stage that normally hosts theatrics had a night off as this contest proved tedious and, in truth, very dull, over 90 minutes.
With only three shots on target and possession split down the middle by the mid-way point, big names such as Jhon Arias, Thiago Silva, Hulk, Marcelo, and Paulinho failed to impress.
That theme remained true throughout the second half, too, until Fluminense found a way to rise from the ashes and send home fans into jubilation.
A late combination between substitutes Kena and VinĂcius Moreira de Lima proved decisive. A cross into the box connected with the eventual hero’s head, and Everson’s fingertip touch was insufficient.
Atlético Mineiro will feel extremely hard done by to concede so late, but their resolute performance ensures this clash has not gotten away from them just yet.
