Botafogo, Flamengo’s next Brasileirão opponents, lost 3-2 to Athletico-PR on Monday. According to Coluna Do Fla, interim coach Rodrigo Bellão outlined a short training plan for the derby.
He said he will have only three sessions with the full squad, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, before Sunday’s game. He added the extra time should help set up scenarios, noting his previous outing in charge against Mirassol was very different.
Bellão felt the team created plenty on Monday, with possession and 33 attempts, and wants similar attacking output but greater efficiency. He said greater defensive balance will be important to secure more wins.
Botafogo are in a difficult 2026 run, with one win from their last five games and a Copa Sudamericana exit. The club dismissed Portuguese coach Franclim Carvalho, with under-20 boss Bellão stepping up on an interim basis while a permanent hire is sought.
Flamengo sit second on 45 points after a 2-1 defeat to Cruzeiro on Saturday, a result that allowed Palmeiras to move six clear. Botafogo are 11th on 30 points, with eight wins, six draws and nine defeats from 23 matches. The clássico is set for Sunday, 30, at 16:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã, in round 25.
