Bournemouth 2 Brentford 2: Schade's brace secures draw on south coast | OneFootball

Kevin Schade scored twice as Brentford earned a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium.

The Germany international opened the scoring with a first-half header before Justin Kluivert levelled for the hosts. Marcus Tavernier put Bournemouth ahead after the break, but Schade capitalised on a mistake at the back to secure a point for the Bees.

Keith Andrews made four changes to his starting XI, with Aaron Hickey, Jannik Schuster, Yehor Yarmoliuk and Jaidon Anthony all coming into the side. Schuster made his first Premier League start, while Anthony came in to face his former club.

Brentford made a bright start on the south coast and created the first opening after three minutes.

Vitaly Janelt and Keane Lewis-Potter combined well on the left before the latter curled an effort towards the far post, but the ball drifted narrowly wide.

Bournemouth responded four minutes later. Tavernier's free-kick was sent across the six-yard box, and António Silva escaped his marker to meet it from close range, only to somehow direct his header wide.

The Bees took the lead on 34 minutes following excellent work from Mamadou Sangaré.

The midfielder won possession from Adrien Truffert near the corner, lifted the ball over the recovering full-back and found Yehor Yarmoliuk. The midfielder delivered first-time from the right, and Schade stooped to meet his cross, directing a header in off the post.

Bournemouth almost responded immediately. Alex Scott's backheel found Kluivert inside the area, and the Dutchman bent an effort towards the far corner. Caoimhín Kelleher made the save, but the Cherries continued to threaten.

Their pressure told a minute later.

Rayan found Evanilson, whose attempted progress was halted by Kristoffer Ajer, but the ball broke kindly to Kluivert. He forced his way through a couple of challenges before firing through a crowd of players and into the net to make it 1-1.

Bournemouth started the second half strongly.

Tavernier carried the ball across the edge of the box before finding Kluivert, whose powerful effort was tipped over by Kelleher.

From the resulting corner, Silva was again presented with a clear chance with his head but nodded wide from close range.

Scott then went close after another slick Bournemouth move. Evanilson's clever touch released the midfielder through the Brentford defence, but he lifted his effort high and wide.

The hosts did take the lead on 52 minutes. Silva clipped the ball into Evanilson, who controlled inside the area before laying it off to Tavernier. The midfielder drilled a low effort beyond Kelleher and into the bottom corner.

Four minutes later, the Bees were back level. James Hill played the ball back to Đorđe Petrović, whose attempted pass out from goal went straight to Schade. The forward's first touch took him into space and, with Petrović out of his goal, Schade calmly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net for his second of the afternoon.

Bournemouth continued to threaten, and Kelleher was called into action again with just over 15 minutes remaining when Tyler Adams struck powerfully from the edge of the box. The Brentford goalkeeper beat the effort away.

The home supporters thought their side had found a third moments later. Scott drove forward from midfield before another backheel released Rayan inside the box. The Brazilian curled his effort beyond Kelleher but just wide, with the ball bouncing back off the advertising boards and making the net ripple.

The Cherries came inches away from a winner in the final moments. Ben Gannon-Doak drove beyond Michael Kayode and shot towards goal. His effort took a deflection, wrong-footing Kelleher, but crashed against the post as Brentford held on for a point.

Andrews on Bournemouth draw

Keith Andrews shared his thoughts after his side drew 2-2 against Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium.

“I didn’t think we were at our best,” said the Bees head coach.

“There were certain parts of the game where I wanted a little bit more. I think we could have played a little bit more with cohesion and conviction.

“On the other hand, I’m very proud of the boys to come here and not play particularly well in certain stages of the game and still come away with a point.”

Schade pleased with start but wants more

Kevin Schade’s brace took him to three Premier League goals for the season, and the forward was pleased with his individual start while stressing the need for Brentford to keep adding points.

“It’s good, but we need to get more points as well,” he said. “On that side, it’s a good start for me.”

He also reflected on the work behind his opener: “We trained this week to find those spaces.

“I just put myself in there, I was free, and then I concentrated on finishing it.”
