PSG and Bournemouth have been at a standstill over Illya Zabarnyi, with neither side willing to budge. But it looks like that might be about to change, as the French club edges closer to signing the Ukrainian defender.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously reported that Zabarnyi is keen to join PSG. The defender even reached a verbal agreement with the club back in June, and negotiations are expected to resume soon.
Despite some rumors, Romano clarified there haven’t been any real talks with Tottenham Hotspur. This week, he confirmed PSG are near a deal. Conversations with Bournemouth have gone smoothly, and only a few small details remain before the transfer is complete.

On Friday, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that PSG is back in talks to sign Zabarnyi. The Bournemouth defender has already agreed to a five-year contract and is just waiting for the clubs to finalize a deal, despite interest from Tottenham.
Jacobs adds that if the transfer goes through, the total fee is likely to be closer to the €70 million Bournemouth are asking for, rather than €60 million. However, there’s still some work to be done before a deal is finalized.
Even though this transfer saga took several weeks to get to this point, the Parisians did face competition for Zabarnyi. CaughtOffside previously revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks to sign Zabarnyi as a potential replacement for Cristian Romero.
Tottenham are reportedly among the few clubs ready to meet Bournemouth’s full asking price for the defender. Newcastle United were also monitoring Zabarnyi as they look for a reliable partner for Sven Botman ahead of their Champions League return.
Meanwhile, Chelsea had Zabarnyi in their long-term center-back shortlist. There was also Liverpool, who were exploring him as a potential successor to Ibrahima Konaté, though they have yet to make a formal move.
Nonetheless, the transfer still isn’t 100 percent officially done. Wild things can happen even when only a few details are left to wrap up negotiations. It will be interesting to see how these next few days play out.
