Bournemouth have completed the signing of midfielder Alex Toth from Ferencvaros. The 20-year-old joins the Premier League club on a five-and-a-half-year contract. He leaves his boyhood side in Hungary.

The Athletic reported on 13 January that Bournemouth were exploring a deal amid competition from other European teams.

Ferencvaros rejected bids last summer, with club and player agreeing he would benefit from staying longer.

Bournemouth view Toth as competition for Ryan Christie and Alex Scott in the defensive midfield roles, with Tyler Adams still injured. His arrival could also free Scott to operate higher up the pitch. Bournemouth were impressed by their physical data on the Hungarian and believe his experience of European competition with a big club will be valuable.

Toth has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Ferencvaros this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists.

He has developed under head coach Robbie Keane, appointed in January 2025, and subsequently attracted suitors from the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A.

The midfielder has nine senior caps for Hungary since his debut in 2025.

Bournemouth are 15th in the Premier League and host Liverpool on Saturday.
