Bournemouth want to keep Christos Mandas next season and are exploring a swap that would send Alex Jimenez to Lazio. According to The Laziali, the proposal is aimed at retaining the Greek goalkeeper’s services without triggering a fee.
Mandas spent the second half of the campaign on loan at the Vitality Stadium but did not feature under Andoni Iraola, who preferred Djordje Petrovic. The Cherries are not set to exercise their €18 million option, which expires on June 15.
Jimenez, a Real Madrid academy graduate, joined AC Milan in 2023 and enjoyed a breakthrough in 2024/25 under Sergio Conceicao. He moved to Bournemouth last summer for circa €20 million.
The full-back started well in the Premier League, making 32 appearances with one goal and one assist. His season ended early when the club provisionally suspended him over an alleged inappropriate interaction with a minor on social media.
Lazio could use a young right-back to upgrade on Adam Marusic and Manuel Lazzari, yet Jimenez would represent a major risk given his ongoing legal issues and damaged reputation.
Gennaro Gattuso would like to install Mandas as first choice with Edoardo Motta as understudy, while Ivan Provedel is negotiating a move to Inter Milan.
