Bournemouth are two matches from triggering the mandatory purchase clause for Alex Jimenez agreed with Milan last summer, which would end Milan and Real Madrid’s rights over his future.
According to NY Times, the clause triggers if he starts, or plays more than 45 minutes, in 18 games, and he is on 16. Bournemouth would then pay €19.5million plus up to €5m in add-ons, Milan taking the first €5m and 50 per cent of the remainder, with Madrid receiving the rest.
Any Madrid return clause only applied if Jimenez went back to Milan. The 2024 sale included buy-backs of €9m in 2025 and €12m in 2026, plus matching rights. Two more starts or appearances over 45 minutes for Bournemouth would end those.
Jimenez scored his first Premier League goal in Saturday’s win over Liverpool and has logged the ninth most minutes, 1,382, in Bournemouth’s squad this season.
He joined Madrid’s academy in 2012, moved to Milan on loan in 2023 without a senior appearance, and mostly played for the Primavera. Milan bought him in 2024, then sold him to Bournemouth in 2025 after 34 appearances.
This shift comes as Madrid weigh whether to recruit a right-back next summer. They have Dani Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold there, with the 34-year-old captain out of contract in June and his renewal uncertain. Jimenez is a Spain youth international and a regular with the under-21s.
