Braga v Gil Vicente called off after bout of Bulgarian food-poisoning | OneFootball

This evening’s match between Braga and Gil Vicente has been postponed after a gastrointestinal infection devastated Braga’s squad.

The Warriors only have 3 goalkeepers and 7 outfield players available. All other members of the first-team squad have been badly affected by an outbreak of food-poisoning traced back to their trip to Bulgaria for Thursday’s UEFA Conference League qualifier against Dinamo Minsk.

The widespread infection was confirmed by a Public Health and Occupational Medicine specialist, who declared the players would be unfit to undertake physical activity for the next 48-72 hours.

Braga immediately contacted the Liga Portugal authorities and representatives of Gil Vicente, and thanked the two institutions for their swift agreement to the request to put back the match.

The postponement could create early fixture congestion for Braga, given that their Liga encounter against Estrela da Amadora, originally scheduled for next weekend, has also been pushed back (along with Benfica’s fixture against Moreirense), owing to participation in the playoff of UEFA club competitions.

Braga will now play Estrela on Thursday 10 September. The club stated that the rearranged date for the Gil Vicente game will be announced shortly.
