Notts County’s play-off campaign came to a heart-breaking end on Saturday afternoon as a 1–0 defeat to AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane saw the Magpies bow out 2–0 on aggregate in the League Two semi-final.

Josh Neufville’s first-half strike proved the difference on the day, as County were unable to find a way through a well-organised Wimbledon defence despite a spirited second-half display.

After an evenly contested opening half-hour, the hosts took the lead in the 33rd minute when Neufville broke through the back line and finished coolly past Tiernan Brooks. The goal gave Wimbledon a slender aggregate advantage, and they protected it with a disciplined defensive effort.

Luke Williams’ side looked to respond after the break, seeing more of the ball and pushing men forward. Macaulay Langstaff came close with a late header that drifted agonisingly wide, but despite a determined effort, the Magpies couldn't carve out the clear-cut chances needed to turn the tie around.

It’s a disappointing end to the season for County, who showed character throughout the campaign and in the play-offs.

Attention now turns to the summer and building on the progress made this season as the club looks ahead with belief and ambition.
