Bravo, Richard Hughes: Liverpool tipped to soon boast world's BEST attack

Liverpool may well have the world's best attack. That's the line from one pundit - and it couldn't reflect better on Richard Hughes.

Liverpool's attack has not been up to scratch this season. That's despite spending an incredible amount of money to improve it, too.

The Reds spent over £400m and the bulk of that was on attacking players. In fact, you can argue that all of it was spent on attacking players as the full-backs that arrived are unquestionably attacking.

And yet, that attack hasn't delivered. Liverpool have consistently struggled to break teams down and really hurt them. Any fixtures where the team has managed to attack well, it's pretty much invariably come at the cost of being able to defend.

But perhaps things aren't actually as bad as they seem. Perhaps Liverpool did get it right in the summer and built an attack for the rest of the world to envy.

That's the opinion of one former Red. He might just be right, too.

The world's best?

Michael Owen has been speaking to Goal and he's made it clear how highly he thinks of the forwards at Liverpool right now. He views them to be as good as anything in Europe.

"The other day when they were playing, if you think Mo Salah, [Hugo] Ekitike and [Alexander] Isak, that is as potent - when everyone is in top form - as good individually as anything you will see in world football," said Owen.

"Obviously they have all got to make it work together."

And on paper? He's probably right. That's an unbelievable level of talent - Ekitike's 15 Bundesliga goals last season were the fewest of the trio in league football.
