Gabriel Brazão trained with the Santos squad at CT Rei Pelé on Thursday and Friday, but the coaching staff have opted not to take the goalkeeper to face Bahia on Saturday.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the call was made despite the player completing both sessions. Santos play at Arena Fonte Nova at 18:30 in the 13th round of the Brasileirão.
Brazão returned after three days’ compassionate leave following the death of his father on Monday. Diógenes started the 0-0 draw with Coritiba in the Copa do Brasil at Vila Belmiro on Wednesday and should keep his place.
Cuca and the football department have left the goalkeeper to decide whether he feels mentally ready to resume. He is expected to work at the training ground with assistant Vinicius Marques and the players not travelling.
First choice since 2024 after João Paulo’s injury, Brazão only ceded the shirt when suspended against Ituano in Série B, when Diógenes deputised. In 2025 he was substituted after a head clash against Atlético-MG, and his team-mate also played the friendlies with Coritiba and Leipzig last year.
A dressing-room leader, the 25-year-old has captained the side and is under contract until the end of 2028.
