Samir Xaud, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), announced that Brazil officially intends to host the next Club World Cup in 2029, having submitted its candidacy to FIFA.
The new head of Brazilian football confirmed discussions with FIFA president Gianni Infantino: “It all started with an introductory conversation, I spoke about my goals as head of the CBF and said that we want to be closer to FIFA. I praised the event and the level of Brazilian clubs and, finally, I made the country available to host the next World Cup.
“President Gianni Infantino was very happy and said that it was totally possible. Now we’re going to work to make it happen. It’s going to be a great goal.”
Xaud added that, after a meeting with Infanto and Mattias Grafström, the FIFA secretary-general, they were pleased with the candidacy and stated that the proposal was "entirely feasible."
Brazil will likely face competition with Morocco and Australia also interested. The USA could also bid to host the tournament for a second time.
